Resolved

Per Desktop Backgrounds still not working.

description

I installed vdm, checked the "Per..." box in options, changed the background on desktop 2, restarted, and both the "Per..." setting in options and my desktop 2 background have been erased. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I'm using vdm 0.7.2876.31107

Also, when I reboot, the background that starts up is the background on whichever desktop I was working on last.

I thought it could be an issue with trying to save the program on the D: drive (it installs onto the C: drive anyway), but when I tell it to install on the C: drive, it still doesn't work:(

I am using vdm 0.7.2876.31107 as well. The Desktops set just fine but after a reboot the desktop backgrounds change in unexpected ways. Sometimes it will save one, other times it will save 2. Sometimes it will just save the one that you were on at shutdown and make that the desktop 1 background and then bring back an old background for some of the other desktops.
I just found this program and i love it already. keep up the great work.

Ok. I have been experimenting with the per desktop backgrounds. Here is what i have found.
If you set up all you desktops and right click on the taskbar icon and exit vdm, then it remembers your backgrounds. It messes up on log off or shutdown I am guessing because it doesn't get to "remember" them. I guess if it isn't already it should right them to where ever the program saves stuff as soon as they change.
Also even if you use the exit trick to get it to remember your backgrounds when you do shut down or log off it will set for desktop 1 what ever background you had 'opened' at shutdown. It will remember all the others though.
Hopefully these experiments are helpful

Thanks, that'll help for now.

Same problem here using vdm 0.7.2876.31107 (on Vista). It doesn't seem to work correctly with user.config settings. When you click OK in the options the file isn't written to immediately. If I exit the app from any desktop apart from 1 it correctly jumps to desktop 1 and its correct background. If I manually edit user.config and change the image file for any desktop apart from 1 it loads that desktops bitmap correctly. If I change desktop 1 bitmap manually in user.config and then load vdm then it doesn't adhear to the setting. and just stays with the image at startup. This image is then written to the user.config file and everything is screwed up. So this is a logic/interaction with the OS problem. If you return to desktop 1 and logoff/shutdown all should be well but this needs fixing.

Cannot get different wallpapers with 0.9RC, running on XP SP3.

This would be nice to have, as I can easily see which virtual desktop I am on (I only use two). However, the persistent shadows problem is much more serious for me. Otherwise, this app is great!

I just want to share with you all how I fix this issue (you need VS2005 studio for the job):
  1. Get the source code
  2. Go to line 121 of file VirtualDesktops.vb
  3. Replace that line (which should say Return Desktop.Wallpaper) with Return _wallPaper
  4. Rebuild the code and use the newly created exe found under the bin directory.
Keep in mind that this is by no mean an official fix until blessed by the author. I just did a quick fix to get me going because, like you all, I use the app and I hate to see this feature broken.

The attached zip file contains the vb file modified as stated above. I also include the new exe if you care to use right away.

Just a quick note to the author: I like the app and please keep up the greate work!!!

I believe that this has been fixed in 0.9.1. If anyone still has any problems with it, let me know.
